Bacon the Pig and bear (week 4)

As the lowest member of “the republic of cheerful” I am devastated to announce that TROC has completely dropped the staple of our project: “Artery”; which is the heart rate monitor. This is because of some critical feedback we received that constantly scanning your heart rate in between gameplay segments slows down the gameplay way too much for an action game, which is understandable to say the least because no one wants an action game to slow down especially when the game is slowed down constantly. We all want to blow things up do we not?  Now moving on to the work I have gotten down to as the artist of the republic of cheerful I would like to present some of the concept art I have produced for some of the characters in our project:

The character on the left is obviously bacon the pig (awesome name right! :D) and the character on the right is simply just a bear for now. Both characters are completely digitally drawn using Adobe Photoshop CS6 but I attempted a different style as a means of experimentation. I found that the style for bacon the pig is a lot faster to create but I feel that the style for the bear gives the character design more of a sense of a liveliness. In order to reach the final stage of these concept sketches I simply created a list of possible body shapes and facial structures for them to see the best possible combinations for the character. We wanted the characters to appear badass but also have unique qualities that stand out from one another. Here are some examples of this for the bear (please excuse the change of orientation):

On another note we have been playing around with a fairly helpful tool called “Playmaker” which is an add-on for unity3D allowing the user to code visually rather than manually coding in C# etc. To be honest I couldn’t really understand how to use it very well and I could only get a few movement and rotation scripts working with it and not in a very efficient manner. In the future I will hopefully touch on more playmaker stuff and show you how it goes :).  If you have read this far, thanks for reading and please let me know where I could improve in any aspect.

What do you guys think? Feel free to tell me how amazing my artwork and/ or this blog is or form an angry mob and burn my house down for how much of an idiot I am :). In all seriousness please let me know what you think so I can make these blogs more entertaining and informative for you guys… now let the rage ensue
