Character design (Week 2)

This week we have been taught a few Interesting ways of testing our character design skills. For our first task we were asked to look at a character from a game we’ve never played before and provide a pitch about what our opinion of the backstory for the character is. For example my character was Tekla from Wolfenstein and in a brief summary to me she appeared a little bit crazy through her clothing and facial expression so I gave her a dark back story. It is interesting how players can perceive a character purely through appearance and displays the way Backstory helps build your idea of how the character will act in the game, their personality traits and how they will react to certain things.

The Appearance can contradict or compliment the personality of the character depending on the role of the character in the story. Our second task was to add our own original character to a pre-existing franchise. This was done through adding backstory and seeing how your character will interact with characters through a chart. It’s a Good way of seeing how well a character will fit into an existing universe. It would be amazing to learn new ways to approach character design so feel free to discuss and share ideas
