Summary of East Inland Co

East Inland Co is a project my group and I have been working on for about 6-7 weeks where essentially you play as a land ship and the aim of the game is to destroy buildings or collect land according to what mission you are given before commencing the game. It’s a fun concept but unfortunately I was unable to see the finished project due to the group over-scoping the game and the mess of group communication that generally separated the designers from the programmers. It’s a terrible sign when you don’t see the finished product of your own project.
Although it was in a playable state from what I saw it was in no way finished and we had to take out several ideas that we just didn’t have time to implement. A lot of problems arose from the fact that we were in a large group for the first time in any project and we didn’t know how to communicate effectively with the entire group at once, so group discussions were sometimes held between a fraction of the group when really the entire group should have been in on each discussion together to make sure that everyone is on the same page.

Another issue that our programming lecturer pointed out is that the programmers didn’t know how to say no, being the colourful bunch that the designers are, we sent a steady stream of ideas that we thought would be fun additions to the game and the progammers gladly accepted our ideas. Working on the East inland co has been an great learning experience that allowed me to work with a larger group of people than I normally would on a project and I think that for the next project we will have a bit more experience behind us to create a simpler but more polished game in the short amount of time.
