Multiplayer is almost always interesting when it is first conceived but after a while when the same multiplayer modes/ gameplay are continuously implemented into every game of that genre they can eventually feel a little boring or repetitive, so I’m going to talk about some interesting examples of multiplayer in games that are unique and a breath of fresh air.
A few Examples of interesting multiplayer games that feature multiplayer in a very unique way:
Super Smash brothers for Wii U features a very unique game mode called “8 player-smash” which as the name suggests allows 8 players to battle simultaneously. There has never been a fighting game before this that allows 8 people to fight all at once on the same screen, as it’s fairly rare to see fighting games with more than 2- 4 players battling it out.

Any game that places multiple people alongside eachother and forces them to use their unique skills in unison to progress through the game is interesting. Trine 2 is the first example that came to my head and it is a Simple 3 player Co-op action, puzzle-platformer game; where players must use their unique skills together to solve puzzles and progress through unique and colourful levels it is almost impossible to progress through the game without planning and communicating with your team members unless playing the single player mode.
MMOs kind of contradict my earlier statement that when the same kind of multiplayer is implemented into every game of that genre although I could be wrong as the population of most MMOs have declined rapidly. MMOs are fairly traditional now but the idea of being part of a huge world and interacting with millions of people is very interesting and allows the game to feel like you are part of a living breathing world if the game is done right.
I know there are probably millions of games that I have missed on this very small list but these are some of the examples of interesting multiplayer I have personally experienced throughout my venture through the video game world.
