This blog will compare the advantages and disadvantages of both online and local multiplayer and help you discover what kind of multiplayer experience suits you although you probably already know the answer to this if you’re reading this. Anyway here we go:
Advantages of online multiplayer
Online multiplayer allows you to play with your friends at any time no matter how distant those individuals are from you. You are able to play video games with people that don’t live relatively close to you and it removes the need to leave your home to play multiplayer with people that do live relatively close to you. Online multiplayer opens the possibility of meeting new friends that would happen much more rarely than playing games locally and upon playing online with random individuals it is much more likely that you will connect to players with a similar skill level
Disadvantages of online multiplayer
If you have terrible internet like myself, a lot of games will be unplayable online which is really unfortunate, either that or you’ll just have very inconsistent and laggy gameplay.Online multiplayer games often have input delay that may throw off your game a bit if you have a very competitive personality. Online multiplayer removes the need for any actual interaction in multiplayer games that often contribute to or make the experience. The main reason I rarely play any online games is the fact that you are unable to pause your video games most of the time which is very inconvenient if you have a busy schedule and you want to quickly play a bit of your favourite game. This mean you have to commit a lot of your time to play a lot of online video games or face getting banned or punished in other ways.
Advantages of local multiplayer
Local multiplayer is great because you are able to interact with each other, have a drink and hang out while playing your favourite video games contributing to the experience that couldn’t really be experienced through playing games online. You will never have to deal with your internet lagging, although framerate lag may occur occasionally in certain games. Most local multiplayer games will let you pause the game meaning you can play a game, pause it and go do something else if you wish rather than dedicating a huge chunk of your time that may become destructive to your lifestyle.
Disadvantages of local multiplayer
Obviously with local multiplayer you will only be able to play games with individuals that live relatively close to you.It’s a very rare occasion that you’ll make any new friends from playing local multiplayer with friends you already know and your friends may not be of a similar skill level to you in the game which could make the game less enjoyable for both of you.
The point of this blog is to point out that although online multiplayer is a blessing, games should also consider keeping local multiplayer as an alternative because not everyone has a really good internet connection and a lot of people like myself prefer hanging out and playing with their close friends. Please remember that not everyone wants to play games entirely online (*cough* *cough* Destiny)
