Mobile Gaming and the future of the industry (Week 8)

Over 500 million IPhones have been sold worldwide up to June 2014 which is substantially more than any video game console ever as the highest selling video game console is the PlayStation 2 selling 155 million units worldwide. Video games are much more available to the casual market this way introducing more and more individuals to video games which is very beneficial in ensuring the future of the video game industry. Unfortunately most video games are becoming expected to be free to the public which may pose a problem for traditional video games with all content being paid for initially.

Despite this there are several marketing strategies that allow game developers to gain an income while providing the main content for free. This includes in game advertising and micro-transactions for extra content and assistance with the game. This is becoming evident in traditional consoles as well as more and more games are providing extra downloadable content for a price proving that the industry is constantly changing form whether it be for better or for worse. Mobile gaming will definitely change the way the industry is formed through its massive influence
