Hello beautiful people, If you didn’t know, my name is Peter
and I have been studying a bachelor of game development for my third
consecutive year and possibly my final one depending on whether I would like to
study any further. This may sound a bit boring but bear with me; I would like
to share my story about my game development career, where my skills are at and
where I want to take them in the future. Hopefully you’ll be able to relate or
possibly even learn something about the industry if you lack any prior
knowledge (although I doubt it :P).
I, like many others, have been absolutely obsessed with the
magical world of video games since an extremely young age and this sheer love
has given me the inspiration and passion to follow my dream of creating my own
video games. I have always seen myself purely as an artist but over the course
of the last 3 years I have dipped my feet into areas of game development that I
would never dream to tread. For example before beginning the course I had zero
knowledge of programming except for Game Maker (a very good place to start)
which is very simplistic and limited in comparison to other Video Game Engines,
but through a lot of practice and research I have gained a lot of knowledge
about the fundamentals of programming and a great deal of the C# programming
language for Unity engine.
I also learnt a great deal about 3D modelling, rigging and
animation using Autodesk Maya which is a very popular piece of software in the entertainment
industry. At the moment I believe that I have the fundamental skills that are
required to develop my own games but in the future It would be very beneficial
if I learned how to produce my own music to broaden my knowledge and have an
understanding of almost all aspects of game development. Thanks for reading and
putting up with my nonsense. If there is anything you would like to learn about
the game industry please let me know down below.
