Inaudible Audio (Week 11)

This week has been a lot less busy than the previous weeks for my fellow artist and me at the republic of cheerful as we have gotten pretty much every vital visual asset ready for implementation. The main thing I’ve been getting up to is importing all the assets we own onto the engine, scaling them to the correct size making sure the filter mode is set To Point; allowing the maximum possible quality, Assigning them to a layer so they don’t appear behind the background, converting them to prefabs and exporting the prefabs so they are ready to be implemented by the programmer in the game. That was a little time consuming but I still had plenty of time left over to experiment on something I normally wouldn’t even think of touching.

A while back my team mentioned implementing comedic voice overs that would mock the players for everything they did in order to provoke the emotion of anger. I thought I would attempt to do these comedic voice overs but… let’s just say it didn’t work out. Before recording I wrote down a series of things I would say for each part of the game for example in the character select screen I would say in a stereotypical british accent, “Don’t choose that character you idiot!” or something along those lines. In theory these would hopefully be seen as humorous because the game is focused on multiplayer gameplay and let’s admit it… we love hearing our friend be called an idiot :D .

Unfortunately my voice is pretty terrible especially when I attempt to put on an accent that isn’t my own. It may have just been the recording that was terrible because I was recording off my gaming headset. Although the recordings were terrible I was determined to make something out of them. I used Audacity to De-Ess (get rid of the horrible “S” sounds) the audio files, change the pitch to a deeper tone, extend the tempo and played around with various other tools that were available but I just ended up making my voice sound like a robot.

Note to self:  “Don’t quit your day job!”

Also our game is now officially called: The Cosmic Crucible of Chaos. K Bye :)
